What to do with broken glass emergencies?
This should really be an issue of common sense but there is no such thing as knowing enough about what to do when things go wrong. Suppose an accident happens and a glass door breaks or someone shatters a large window panel? What do you do? Well first, it should be noted that you shouldn’t move around too much especially if you are barefoot. You need to first determine if everyone is ok, second check around to see if there are sharp glass pieces on the floor. If there are, you need to remove furniture away since small pieces may have scattered under them and then grab a disposable item (newspapers are a good option) and soak it wet a little so it can absorb.
Make sure the newspaper you grabbed is layered in a way that your hands won’t be vulnerable to getting a bad cut. Then carefully wipe the floor around until there are no more glass pieces. The reason why you can’t use a mop is because the threads will catch sharp pieces and when you try to wash it, it could really cause severe injuries because it will be as if you’re washing a net full of sharp razors. Ideally, you should wipe the floor with a handheld dispensable cloth wipe because you would only touch the stick not the cloth. There are a lot more useful than they seem.
After all the cleaning has been done, the next (and perhaps one of the most ‘’postponed’’ steps) is to call in a glass repair company to fix or replace your glass piece. You really don’t want to put glass repair off because you would be making a bad situation even worse. When glass is cracked, it could easily break with very little effort and in that case you would be left with considerably more glass pieces to clean and more importantly an even worse scenario for your safety because you could be creating a very vulnerable and delicate situation for your kids, friends or even yourself.
